Cosmetic Advertising Clearance

Ad Standards Clearance Services reviews cosmetic broadcast advertising copy to ensure compliance with the Guidelines for the Nonprescription and Cosmetic Industry Regarding Non-therapeutic Advertising and Labelling Claims. We have been providing clearance in this category since 1992, when Health Canada transferred this function to our organization.

Ad Standards Clearance Services also offers consultation services for new product launches and new advertising concepts. Review services are offered in both English and French and are done by clearance analysts who are experts in their respective disciplines.

Ad Standards Clearance Services works closely with industry and Health Canada to update the Guidelines for the Nonprescription and Cosmetic Industry Regarding Non-therapeutic Advertising and Labelling Claims.

Working collaboratively with clients, Ad Standards Clearance Services can help ensure your advertising meets regulatory requirements and receives an Ad Standards approval number. The clearance approval number communicates to private and public broadcasters that the advertisement has been approved.

At the request of industry, Ad Standards has developed a Clearance Services logo that may be affixed to advertising materials that have been reviewed by and received approval from Ad Standards Clearance Services. The logo may be used in all forms of media provided that the advertisement was reviewed and approved by Ad Standards in its final, as-produced form. This helps build consumer confidence by communicating that your advertising is compliant with all pertinent regulations in Canada. Contact clearance@adstandards.ca to learn more.

We also offer educational workshops and custom presentations, to help advertisers and their agencies keep abreast of the current regulatory environment and emerging issues affecting advertising.
