Ad Standards considers any advertising that states, suggests, or implies that a relationship exists between the consumption of a food or beverage and health to fall under the ‘Food with Health Claim’ category.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of claims in food or beverage advertising that fall within the scope of ‘health claims’.

 

  • Representing a food as having the properties of a drug
  • Disease risk reduction claims
  • Therapeutic claims
  • Function claims
  • Nutrient function claims
  • Probiotic claims
  • Prebiotic claims
  • General health claims (“Good for you”, “Healthy”)
  • Weight loss claims
  • Weight maintenance claims
  • Implied health claims

Food or beverage advertisers making health claims in their advertisements are required to submit under the ‘Food with Health Claims’ category.
