Ad Standards considers any advertising that states, suggests, or implies that a relationship exists between the consumption of a food or beverage and health to fall under the ‘Food with Health Claim’ category.
Below is a non-exhaustive list of claims in food or beverage advertising that fall within the scope of ‘health claims’.
- Representing a food as having the properties of a drug
- Disease risk reduction claims
- Therapeutic claims
- Function claims
- Nutrient function claims
- Probiotic claims
- Prebiotic claims
- General health claims (“Good for you”, “Healthy”)
- Weight loss claims
- Weight maintenance claims
- Implied health claims
Food or beverage advertisers making health claims in their advertisements are required to submit under the ‘Food with Health Claims’ category.
